DAY 19 - LAKE MCKENZIE, MCKENZIE JETTY & CENTRAL STATION

Well let's just say my photography skills are excellent, because it looks like we are on a deserted beach, yet it is packed with backpackers! This is lake Mckenzie. If you do not like crowds you will hate it here as every man and his dog along with the multitude of tourist buses, tag along tours and bad English drivers who have hired a troopy are guaranteed to be here.

This was not my idea to dress my child like this.

After we had had enough of the hordes of tourists, we decided to find somewhere quieter. Mckenzie's Jetty was lovely albeit infested with mosquitoes. This place was oozing with history. This is the old jetty where they used to train the timber onto the boats.

I spy a dingo...

The beach was crawling with these little crabs, the sound that they were emitting was incredible! It was so loud.

An old tractor abandoned on the beach.

An old boiler washed up on the beach. One of the special units of the army used to do their world war II training in and around here!

On the way home we called into central station. This used to be a little town for the logging community. Unfortunately just about all the beautiful old buildings are gone!

The beautiful crystal clear creek at central station.

To finish off one of my favorite days on the Island PAUL FINALLY CAUGHT A FISH!

DAY 18 - KINGFISHER BAY AND VALLEY OF THE GIANTS

We toured around central and western Fraser Island, checking out the kingfisher bay resort. This place had the most expensive fuel on this island. I would recommend fueling up on the eastern side as it is at least 10c a liter cheaper (it should be the cheapest as it is on the port and has bitchumen roads). There isn't much to see in town apart from a fairly long jetty. We saw heaps of fish swimming beneath us.

A lovely gentleman was on his wife's 40th birthday trip and spent the day fishing (by himself) he caught some bait fish so Israel could hold them (because daddy was having such bad luck hooking a fish of his own)!

Then we headed over to valley of the giants. This was the last place they logged on the Island I think the last tree was felled in 1993.

Sitting on the beach waiting for daddy to catch a fish....

No fish....

DAY 17 - 75 MILE BEACH HIGHLIGHTS

We left the northern side of Fraser to head to a more central location to explore the lower section of Fraser Island.

Indian head.

Sand blow (inland sand dune) which you can see from Indian head.

Red canyon.

The pinnacles.

The Maheno Wreck. This has deteriorated so much in the past 6 years since we have been here last.

Eli creek.

Stone tool sand blow 5 km drive off the beach.
